Shockwave Therapy
Cutting Edge Podiatry is excited to introduce our new 20hz Swiss Dolorclast Radial Shockwave Therapy Machine. The new 20hz model is the most evidence based, effective and comfortable unit available, meaning our patients will receive a superior standard of treatment.
Why is it used?
The Swiss Dolorclast Shockwave Therapy Machine is a non-invasive method for treating a multitude of musculoskeletal pathologies. Common lower limb pathologies such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis and medial tibial stress syndrome can all treated effectively. It is the step to take where previous conservative management has failed. This method produces promising results and is recommended before extensive or invasive treatments such as cortisone injections or possible surgery.
How does it work?
The machine produces high intensity acoustic pressure waves. These shockwaves travel through the layers of the skin and create mechanical trauma to the injured tissue. This action activates the body’s self-healing process for the repair and renewal of soft tissue, tendons, muscles and bone, leading to a possible reduce in pain within the problematic area. Other benefits include:
Improved blood circulation through increased metabolic activity
Cell regeneration
Breakdown of calcification deposits
Decreased sensitivity in area of pain through stimulating nerves
Anti-inflammatory effect
How long does it take?
Shockwave therapy usually involves weekly treatments lasting between 3-6 weeks. The application takes around 3 minutes for a standard 2000 wave cycle. Patients often will notice immediate results due to the increase blood flow and desensitisation of the area of pain.
Does it hurt?
Every individual is unique however shockwave therapy is often painless. The shockwaves start at a low level and gradually build in intensity as the target area becomes desensitised. In 1-2 minutes, painful areas become reasonably easy to endure with most patients describing an awareness of vibration and pressure but not pain.
